About
Combining refined Louis XVI styling with an ingenious folding design, this antique French card table offers both decorative appeal and practical versatility. Crafted in France circa 1930, the square table is constructed of mahogany and features delicate geometric marquetry, contrasting wood banding, and fine string inlay throughout.
The distinctive top is composed of four triangular panels arranged in a geometric pattern. Each section unfolds on brass hinges in a traditional en portefeuille or napkin-fold design, transforming the compact occasional table into a larger square gaming surface. When fully opened, the center reveals a green felt playing surface surrounded by a polished mahogany border, with four recessed brass cup holders positioned at the corners.
The table stands on four slender, square tapered legs with restrained neoclassical detailing. A single front drawer, fitted with its original brass escutcheon and key, opens to reveal divided compartments for storing playing cards, chips, and gaming accessories. The rich mahogany grain, contrasting veneers, and precise geometric construction reflect the craftsmanship associated with French Louis XVI Revival furniture.
The antique folding game table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining a warm mahogany patina. Its compact proportions and clever convertible design make it ideal for a living room, library, or game room.
