Tall, narrow, and architecturally striking, this antique French bonnetière was crafted in the Périgord region circa 1750. Built of walnut, the single-door cabinet reflects the bold geometry and strong vertical lines associated with the Louis XIII style.

The façade is centered by two large raised diamond panels framed with deep moldings and flanked by dramatic barley-twist columns. Matching geometric decoration continues along the sides, while a wide removable crown and molded plinth base give the cabinet a substantial architectural presence. A lower drawer fitted with a forged iron ring pull provides additional storage.

The door opens with its original oversized 7-inch iron key and period lock to reveal a spacious interior with a fixed shelf. Warm walnut tones, darkened moldings, and centuries of natural wear create a rich patina throughout, highlighting the hand-built construction and provincial character of the piece.

Originally used as a bonnetière, or narrow wardrobe, this versatile cabinet would work beautifully today in a bedroom, entryway, living room, or dining room for linen, clothing, or general storage.

Very good condition commensurate with age and use, with expected wear and patina.
