This elegant antique trumeau mirror was crafted in Versailles, France circa 1770 and beautifully reflects the refined neoclassical vocabulary of the Louis XVI period. The tall architectural frame is finished in a softly aged cream-painted surface accented with giltwood moldings and applied carved ornament, including classical urns, floral rosettes, laurel swags, ribbons, and foliate motifs arranged with characteristic symmetry.

The upper section features an oil-on-canvas harbor scene in the manner of Claude-Joseph Vernet (1714–1789). Sailboats, fishermen, rowboats, and figures animate the foreground, while a substantial coastal tower and fortified buildings rise beside the water beneath an atmospheric sky. The maritime composition adds both color and narrative interest to the restrained architectural framework.

Below, the mirror retains its original mercury glass, displaying the subtle foxing and softly mottled reflection prized in authentic 18th-century mirrors. The original wood backing remains in place, further preserving the integrity of the piece.

The trumeau is in very condition commensurate with age and use, with expected wear, minor losses, and old touch-ups to the painted and gilt surfaces. The resulting patina gives the mirror exceptional depth and authenticity.
