This beautiful antique oil on canvas was painted in Paris, France circa 1760. The portrait painting depicts the Marquis de Rochambeau dressed in formal clothing. The composition has fine, colorful details throughout the clothing and facial expressions. The subject of the figure painting is Marshal Jean-Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, comte de Rochambeau (1725 ??? 1807), who was a French nobleman and general. The comte played a major role with Lafayette, in helping the Thirteen Colonies win independence during the American Revolution. During this time, he served as commander-in-chief of the French Expeditionary Force that embarked from France in order to help the American Continental Army fight against British forces. 26″W x 31.5″H SKU: 82-284
