19th C. French Louis Philippe Metamorphic Walnut High Chair Into Rolling Pram
$1,200
About
A rare and multi functional French metamorphic high chair in the Louis Philippe style, crafted circa 1860 from solid walnut with a warm, timeworn patina. Ingeniously designed to convert from a high chair into a low rolling pram or play chair, this 19th-century nursery piece showcases both elegance and practicality. The chair features a shaped crest rail and turned spindles typical of the Louis Philippe period, with gracefully rounded forms and restrained ornamentation. The curved tray swings outward and locks securely with a wooden peg and notched arm terminals. When in its low position, the chair becomes a wheeled play seat with a broad tray surface and a whimsical row of painted wooden abacus beads. It rests on iron-rimmed wheels and includes a bentwood footrest, adding both charm and function. A delightful and functional collectible, ideal for a nursery vignette or antique toy collection. Excellent condition with surface wear and patina consistent with age. Dimensions (high chair position): 19.5″ W x 20″ D x 38″ H Seat height (high position): 23.5″ Dimensions (low pram position): 31″ W x 19.5″ D x 25″ H Seat height (low position): 10″
