About
This beautiful antique Holy Book was printed in England circa 1870. The impressive Victorian family Bible, titled “The National Comprehensive Family Bible”, was edited by Rev. John Eadie and published by Cassell & Company, Limited (London, Paris, New York, Toronto, and Melbourne). This richly bound volume features a deeply embossed leather cover with intricate geometric tooling and gilt-stamped title, further distinguished by elaborately engraved brass corner mounts and working clasps, all showcasing high craftsmanship of the era. The interior includes a striking chromolithograph frontispiece and an ornate title page labeled Cassell’s Family Bible. Contents include both the Old and New Testaments, along with extensive commentaries by Scott and Henry and numerous explanatory notes from European and American theological sources, making this not just a devotional book but a comprehensive biblical reference.
The Bible is in very good antique condition with expected wear to the leather binding and light foxing inside. Its presence is both scholarly and decorative, perfect as a centerpiece for a library, parlor, or collection of ecclesiastical antiques.
