19th Century French Adjustable Walnut Piano Stool with Carved Shell Seat
$1,600
About
This elegant antique French piano or musician’s stool dates to circa 1870 and is crafted from solid walnut with a beautifully time-softened patina. The sculptural shell-form seat is hand carved with radiating flutes and a scalloped crest, giving the piece strong visual character while remaining refined and balanced. The seat is height adjustable via an exposed wrought iron screw mechanism, allowing for both functional flexibility and decorative interest. The tripod base is richly carved with floral motifs along the apron and stands on three cabriole legs terminating in paw feet, all joined by a shaped stretcher for stability. The turned central column adds vertical rhythm and reinforces the stool’s classical proportions. The carving throughout is crisp yet softened by age, highlighting the quality of craftsmanship and the warmth of the walnut. This antique stool works beautifully as a piano or vanity stool, but also as an accent piece in a dressing room, library, or music room. It is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Dimensions: 15″W x 17″D x 23″H Seat height: 18″H to 21″H
