Decorate a hunting lodge or ranch with this colorful antique planter. Crafted in Sarreguemines, France circa 1880, the elegant Majolica planter stands on paw feet, and is dressed with boar head handles. The cache pot features a hunt scene in high relief with dogs hunting a boar and flanked by trees on both sides. The oval faience cachepot is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns rich colors in the brown, blue and green palette. A similar piece is featured in the book “Les Barbotines” by Pierre Faveton page 51. Sarreguemines pottery is a type of French earthenware and majolica that was produced in the Lorraine region of France. The pottery was known for its rich colors and humorous character jugs; it also produced a variety of majolica tureens, vases, asparagus items, and figural piece. The pottery was founded in 1784 by Nicholas-Henri and Paul-Augustin Jacobi and Joseph Fabry. It expanded and prospered under the management of Paul Utzschneider, who took over in 1800. The factory produced tiles for the Paris metro and majolica in the 1860s. It ceased production in 2007 and was liquidated. 20.5″W x 9″D x 9″H
