19th Century French Brass & Champleve Cross with Holy Water Font on White Marble
$750
About
Enhance a devotional space with this colorful antique French holy water font, crafted circa 1880. Set against a white marble cross-shaped base, the centerpiece features a champlevé enamel crucifix richly decorated with intricate floral and foliate motifs in vibrant shades of blue, red, and ivory, framed in gilt bronze. The center of the cross bears a medallion with the Christogram “IHS”, a sacred monogram symbolizing Jesus Christ. Each arm of the cross is decorated with small decorative brass bosses, adding depth and elegance.
Below, a delicately hinged holy water basin, also in matching champlevé enamel, opens to reveal a small receptacle lined with alabaster, perfect for holding blessed water. The back is fitted with a brass plate and suspension ring for easy wall mounting. In excellent condition commensurate with age and use, the tall refined religious piece would bring an authentic and spiritual touch to a prayer corner, or sacred collection.
