19th Century French Bleached Oak Nine-Gun Cabinet With Hunt Carvings
$10,500
About
This rare antique French gun cabinet was crafted in solid oak circa 1860 and offers the scale, carving, and architectural presence of an important château furnishing. Designed as a two-piece cabinet for displaying a sporting collection, the upper section is fitted to hold up to nine long guns, with individual stock rests and barrel slots behind tall arched doors retaining their wavy glass panels. The exterior is richly carved throughout with deeply sculpted hunting and nature motifs, including game birds, fish, fruiting vines, floral garlands, leafy scrollwork, and high-relief medallions. A bold molded cornice crowns the cabinet, while the lower case is fitted with two carved drawers above cabinet doors opening to concealed storage with a central shelf. The light bleached oak finish gives the piece a warm, refined patina while emphasizing the depth and crispness of the hand carving. Both decorative and functional, this antique cabinet would make a striking statement in a library, study, hunting lodge, wine room, or layered interior as a gun cabinet, collector’s vitrine, or dramatic display piece. In excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with key included. Displayed firearms are not included. Dimensions: 51.75″W x 22.5″D x 93″H.
