Pair of French Louis XV Walnut Corner Cabinets with 18th Century Doors
$26,500
About
This striking pair of antique French encoignures combines impressive architectural scale with beautifully preserved period carving. Crafted in France and sourced from Lyon, the tall walnut corner cabinets were later constructed around authentic Louis XV doors dating to circa 1760.
Each arched door is deeply carved with a central shell surrounded by scrolling foliage and sinuous molded details characteristic of the Louis XV period. Rounded front stiles, shaped aprons and petite cabriole feet complement the graceful movement of the carved panels. The warm walnut displays attractive grain and a rich, mellow patina developed over time.
Both doors retain iron hinges, decorative escutcheons and working keys. The spacious interiors are fitted with fixed wooden shelves, providing generous storage for books, tableware, linens or collectibles. Paneled sides and substantial construction give the cabinets a strong architectural presence while allowing them to fit neatly into adjoining corners.
Standing eight and a half feet tall, these encoignures would make an exceptional statement in a salon, dining room or library, particularly when positioned as a complementary pair. The cabinets are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with minor wear consistent with their history.
