About
Bring the grandeur and devotion of a historic French chapel into an interior with this exceptional and complete set of fourteen antique “Chemin de Croix” panels, handcrafted in France circa 1850. Monumental in both scale and presence, each deeply sculpted relief illustrates one of the sacred Stations of the Cross with remarkable emotion, movement, and architectural detail.
Executed in molded plaster and stucco with hand-painted polychrome decoration, the panels are framed within elegant arched surrounds surmounted by carved foliage, Roman numeral cartouches, and wooden crosses. The high-relief compositions display expressive figures, Roman soldiers, and biblical scenes rendered with extraordinary dimensionality and craftsmanship. Soft, time-mellowed colors combined with the restored painted surfaces give the ensemble an authentic ecclesiastical character while preserving its antique devotional spirit.
Originally commissioned for a church, monastery, or private chapel, this rare complete 14-piece series offers a powerful visual narrative of the Passion of Christ. Few surviving examples remain intact at this scale, making the collection both an important religious artifact and a striking decorative installation suitable for a chapel, gallery, monastery, wine cellar, or dramatic architectural interior.
The Stations depicted include all fourteen traditional scenes from Christ condemned before Pilate through the Entombment.
The Fourteen Stations Depicted Are:
Jesus is condemned to death.
Jesus takes up His cross.
Jesus falls the first time.
