19th Century French Empire Double-Side Lectern on Cabinet with Carved Eagle

About
This monumental antique French Lutrin, crafted circa 1810, is an exceptional Empire period statement piece combining sculptural presence with architectural form. Rising to an impressive height, the lectern is surmounted by a boldly carved imperial eagle, its wings dramatically spread and its gaze turned in vigilant profile. A powerful emblem of authority during the reign of Napoléon Bonaparte, the eagle instantly anchors the piece within the grandeur of early 19th century France.
The double-sided swivel bookstand is formed in forged wrought iron, allowing sacred texts, legal volumes, or musical scores to be displayed from either side. The iron framework contrasts beautifully with the dark patinated carving of the eagle, enhancing both texture and depth. The carving itself is strong and dimensional, with detailed feather work and a commanding stance that gives the figure remarkable presence.
The lectern rests on a substantial turned walnut pedestal, which is mounted to a confiturier-form cabinet below. The single-door base is flanked by engaged columns, creating a refined neoclassical rhythm. The cabinet retains its original hardware and stands on classic bun feet, grounding the vertical silhouette with balance and stability. The proportions are architectural and harmonious, giving the entire composition a commanding yet elegant stance.
Originally intended for ecclesiastical or civic use, this antique Empire Bible or music stand would have held religious manuscripts or official documents during ceremonies. Today, it would make a spectacular focal point in a study, office, or library, offering both sculptural drama and functional storage.
The antique piece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and retains a rich walnut patina that enhances the depth of the carving and the warmth of the wood.
