19th Century French Louis Philippe Silver Leaf Mercury Glass Wall Mirror

About
Bring French elegance to an entryway, bedroom, powder room, or living space with this handsome antique Louis Philippe wall mirror. Crafted in France circa 1870, the rectangular mirror features the classic Louis Philippe silhouette with gracefully rounded upper corners enclosed within a broad molded wood frame. The silver leaf finish has mellowed beautifully over time, developing a rich, luminous patina that enhances the understated elegance of the period. The frame is further enriched with delicate hand-engraved floral and foliate decoration, while a finely beaded inner molding provides a refined transition to the mirror plate.
The mirror retains its original mercury glass, prized by collectors for its softly luminous reflection and remarkable depth. The plate displays attractive foxing, light clouding, and scattered areas of silvering loss consistent with more than 150 years of age, all of which contribute to its authentic antique character rather than detract from its beauty.
The back remains intact and has been fitted with a protective cardboard covering, along with a later hanging wire for secure vertical installation. Elegant yet versatile, this Louis Philippe mirror is equally at home above a mantel, console, chest, or bathroom vanity, and would make a sophisticated addition to an entryway, dressing room, bedroom, or powder room.
The mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a beautifully aged silver leaf finish with a rich patina throughout.
