19th Century French Signed Cow Bell with Original Leather Collar & Bronze Buckle
Bring the French countryside into your home with this beautiful, patinated metal antique bell from the Alps mountains of France. Crafted, circa 1880, the rustic bell is signed MLD Chamonix, and features an engraved cow motif on the metal. The bovine neck piece is further embellished by the original brown leather strap with the ornate bronze buckle. These kind of bells had various distinctive sounds and were used to locate cattle in the pasture. Cows or sheep would wear them around their neck so owners or shepherds could easily recognize their herd no matter the distance. Excellent condition with rich patinated bronze finish and wonderful sound.
