Early 20th Century French Silvered Iron Altar Crucifix with Ornate Lily Base
$825
About
Crafted in France circa 1920 from silvered iron, the crucifix features a beautifully cast figure of Christ on a Latin cross with Fleur-de-Lys terminals, symbolic of purity and the Holy Trinity. The crossbar bears the traditional “INRI” banner, while the upright shaft is adorned with finely incised lilies of the valley, a timeless emblem of resurrection and humility. The base is particularly elaborate, showcasing a tri-footed design with acanthus scrollwork, palmettes, and paw feet, evoking French Gothic and Baroque influences. A delicate floral collar gracefully transitions the stem to the base, enhancing the sculptural harmony of the piece. The reverse is plain and subtly worn, with an authentic patina and age-related oxidation that reflect its liturgical history. In very good condition commensurate with age and use, this ecclesiastical piece would make a meaningful addition to a home altar, sacred space, or curated collection of religious art. 20″H
