Early 20th Century Louis XIV Carved Marquetry Walnut and Marble Commode Chest
This elegant antique “Commode a Arbalette” was carved in the Rhone valley of France, circa 1920. The fruitwood serpentine front commode stands on thick feet decorated with bronze mounts over a scalloped apron embellished with a decorative floral and leaf mount. The cabinet features marquetry decor throughout, including on the three drawers; each drawer is dressed with the original bronze handles and matching escutcheons. The surface is dressed with a shaped black and white marble top. Both curved sides are decorated with parquetry motif panels. The Louis XIV style French chest is in excellent condition and adorns a rich walnut patina, dressed with a beautiful variegated stone top. Place this commode in a living room, dining room or bedroom.
