Exquisite 18th Century Country French Carved Walnut Armoire from Lyon
$17,000
About
Place this impressive antique Armoire Lyonnaise in a bedroom, salon, or family room to anchor the space with authentic 18th century French presence. Crafted in Lyon circa 1760, the cabinet is built of fruitwood with a warm and rich walnut patina, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and beautifully figured grain throughout.
The façade is defined by a bold double bonnet top, centered with an exquisitely carved shell crest and flanked by scrolling foliate motifs, a hallmark of the Louis XV period. The two paneled doors are decorated with raised and molded cartouches accented with delicate hand-carved floral details, creating depth and movement across the surface. The armoire stands on elegant scroll feet over a shaped and scalloped apron, reinforcing its refined provincial character.
The doors open to reveal a well-appointed interior fitted with original shelving and drawers, offering generous and practical storage. The piece retains its original iron hardware, including hinges, escutcheon, and working lock with key, further enhancing its authenticity.
This antique armoire is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with minor wear consistent with its age. A substantial and decorative storage piece, ideal for linens, media, or clothing, and equally suited as a striking focal point in a traditional or curated interior.
