About
Decorate a console, mantel, or dining table with this elegant antique faience urn, crafted in Rouen, France circa 1850. The tall, elongated form rises on a sculpted pedestal base with scrolled feet, and is flanked by two gracefully curved handles adorned with leaf motifs in relief. The domed lid, topped with a flame-form finial, completes the refined silhouette.
Hand-painted in the traditional Rouen palette, the ceramic surface is richly decorated with intricate floral and foliate arabesques in vibrant shades of cobalt blue, ochre, green, and iron red, set against a crisp white ground. The detailed ornamentation continues throughout the body and lid, showcasing the craftsmanship and decorative complexity associated with Rouen faience.
The antique covered urn is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with beautifully preserved colors and a glossy glazed finish. Stamped “Rouen” on the underside, further attesting to its origin.
A striking decorative statement piece, ideal for adding height and color to a vignette or for display in a traditional interior.
