About
Place this elegant antique secrétaire à abattant in an office, study, or bedroom. Crafted in France circa 1840, the fruitwood cabinet features clean, classical lines with a molded top above a frieze drawer. The fall-front opens to reveal a well-appointed interior fitted with six small drawers, a central open niche for letters and books, and flanked by turned columns, creating a refined architectural “theater.” The writing surface is lined with green leather, offering both contrast and functionality.
Below, double cabinet doors open to interior shelving, providing additional concealed storage. The secrétaire retains two original keys and showcases a warm and rich walnut-toned patina with beautifully figured grain throughout the façade.
The antique desk is in very good condition commensurate with age and use, including minor surface wear and visible marks to the left side of the top, consistent with use over time and adding to its authentic character. A practical and decorative piece, ideal for spaces where form and function must work together.
