Mid-20th Century French Painted Barbotine Ceramic Duck Pitcher
$425
About
This colorful antique majolica water pitcher was sculpted in France, circa 1960. Hand painted and richly glazed, the ceramic jug is modeled as a standing mallard duck, with the open beak forming the spout and the curved tail feathers creating a practical handle. The body is detailed with textured plumage in vibrant shades of green, brown, ochre, and deep blue, finished with a glossy glaze that enhances the sculptural relief. Raised on an integral grassy base, the pitcher combines whimsical country charm with traditional French barbotine craftsmanship. The underside bears the impressed number “8736” along with a small crowned mark. It is in excellent antique condition commensurate with age and use, with vivid colors throughout. Dimensions: 9″W x 5″D x 11.25″H.
