About

This striking vintage covered ginger jar was crafted in Holland circa 1960. Made of glazed ceramic in the traditional Delft manner, the large baluster-form vessel is richly decorated in deep cobalt blue over a creamy white ground with elaborate floral and foliate motifs arranged within shaped reserves.

The body features alternating hand-painted floral panels framed by dense scrolling decoration, stylized blossoms, and geometric borders. The domed removable lid repeats the intricate blue and white ornamentation and is surmounted by a charming molded dog-form finial, adding a playful sculptural element to the classic design.

The underside bears the maker’s mark “Made for Royal Sphinx by Boch, Holland” together with a Delfts inscription, identifying the piece with the celebrated Dutch ceramic tradition. With its generous scale and highly decorative surface, the jar would make a wonderful statement on a console, commode, mantel, or dining room buffet.

The vintage Delft jar is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with rich cobalt coloring and a glossy glazed finish throughout.

Dimensions: 9.5″ diameter x 18″ H.
