Mid-Century French Carved Giltwood Sunburst Mirror with Cut Glass Insets
$1,500
About
This striking sunburst mirror was crafted in France circa 1950 and exemplifies the bold, decorative flair of mid-century design. The frame is composed of radiating beams in alternating tiers, each clad in hand-applied gilt and inset with individual mirrored panels, creating a vibrant interplay of light and reflection. The central oval mirror is bordered by two concentric rings of segmented glass, giving the piece dimensional depth and a jewel-like brilliance. Constructed from wood and gesso with original gold leaf finish, the mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and retains its authentic patinated finish. The back shows the original wooden panel and early hanging hardware, attesting to its period craftsmanship. Measuring 18 inches wide by 20 inches high and 1.5 inches deep, this vintage miroir soleil is an eye-catching decorative accent, perfect for adding a burst of French mid-century charm to an entryway, powder room, or above a console.
