Mid-Century French Majolica Asparagus Serving Set, 7 Pieces

About
Bring the charm of the French countryside to your dining table with this colorful antique seven-piece asparagus serving set. Crafted in France circa 1960, the ceramic service includes six individual asparagus plates and one matching rectangular serving platter, all decorated in the traditional French barbotine majolica style.
Each plate is beautifully molded in relief to resemble a bundle of fresh asparagus spears, with finely detailed tips and ribbed stalks. The vibrant green glaze gradually fades into soft shades of pale green and creamy white, creating a naturalistic appearance. Two raised brown ties cross the asparagus stalks, adding warmth and contrast to the composition. The plates feature gently scalloped edges and an integrated circular well at one end, traditionally designed to hold melted butter, hollandaise sauce, or vinaigrette.
The matching rectangular serving platter repeats the asparagus motif, with a generous surface for presenting freshly cooked asparagus. Its sculptural form, textured decoration, and glossy glaze reflect the enduring popularity of vegetable-themed majolica tableware in French culinary tradition.
The underside of the platter bears the impressed manufacturer’s mark “ITALICA ARS.” The service is particularly well suited for entertaining, a French country kitchen, or display in a decorative cabinet.
The antique asparagus service is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining its vibrant green glaze. The serving platter has small hairline cracks, consistent with age.
