Mid-Century Venetian Canal Oil Painting in Gilt Frame Signed Georges Quintaine
$2,400
About
A luminous Venetian canal scene by French painter Georges Quintaine (1940–2020), celebrated for his romantic landscapes and atmospheric waterfronts. Executed in oil on canvas, the composition captures the golden light of late afternoon as it bathes historic palazzos in warm ochre and rose tones. Gondolas drift across the calm waterway, their movement drawing the eye toward a hazy horizon where sky and city softly blend. Signed G. Quintaine in red at lower right, the painting reflects the artist’s distinctive blend of realism and mood. Quintaine was a self-taught painter from Étampes, trained by his father and known for his extraordinary output across more than five decades. Working almost exclusively on commission, he painted up to ten hours a day and frequently signed his works under various pseudonyms for different galleries, including Queffelec and Le Cozic. His preferred subjects included Venice, Paris, and the French coast, each rendered with clarity, warmth, and emotional restraint. The painting is presented in a substantial giltwood frame with a softly aged patina. Overall dimensions are 32.5 inches wide by 28.25 inches high. In excellent condition and ready to hang, this evocative work captures the enduring charm of Venice and the quiet craftsmanship of one of France’s most prolific 20th-century painters.
