Add a touch of French provincial charm to a mantel, bookshelf, or tabletop with this delightful near pair of antique Rouen faience cachepots. Crafted in France circa 1920, each square planter features a scalloped rim with hand-painted polychrome floral and foliate decoration in the traditional Rouen palette of cobalt blue, golden yellow, green, and rust orange.
Although sold as a pair, each cachepot displays its own distinctive character. One stands on four stylized paw feet with molded shell and scroll motifs, while the other is raised on an integrated plinth base accented with sculptural lion paw feet projecting from each side. Their lively hand-painted decoration and gently undulating rims showcase the craftsmanship and whimsical elegance associated with Rouen faience.
Both antique cachepots are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with rich hand-painted colors, a beautiful glazed finish, and minor wear to the underside consistent with age. Ideal for displaying small plants, fresh flowers, serving nuts or candies, or simply as charming decorative accents on a shelf or tabletop.
