Pair of 18th Century French Walnut Milking Stools from Normandy
$2,950
About
This authentic pair of antique French milking stools was crafted in Normandy circa 1780 and reflects the honest, utilitarian furniture of 18th-century rural life. Made from solid walnut, each stool features a thick, hand-shaped half-round seat with beautifully worn edges, bearing the deep patina and surface irregularities that only centuries of daily use can produce. The stools rest on three gently curved legs, carefully splayed for stability on uneven farm floors. The simple, sculptural form was designed specifically for comfort and balance while hand-milking cows, making these pieces a rare survival of early agricultural seating rather than later decorative interpretations. Tool marks, softened contours, and natural wear remain visible throughout, reinforcing their authentic antique character. Both stools are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound and full of character, they work beautifully today as accent stools, low side tables, or sculptural objects in a French country, rustic, or wabi-sabi interior. Dimensions: 15″W x 10.25″D x 14.75″H Seat height: 14.75″
