Hand-carved in France circa 1860, this pair of antique Louis XV benches is crafted in solid walnut with a painted finish and hand-applied gold leaf accents. The soft painted ground is highlighted with gilt detailing that enhances the depth of the carved decoration. Each bench features a serpentine apron with rocaille and foliate carvings centered by a shell motif. Cabriole legs are carved at the knees and terminate in scroll feet, consistent with classic Louis XV design. The painted surface shows age-appropriate wear with light rubbing to the gilding, adding authentic antique character. Frames are solid and structurally sound. The current neutral velvet upholstery shows little wear and might need replacement depending on use.
