Pair of 19th Century French Blue and White Delft Vases with Pastoral Scenes
$1,600
About
Bring color and character to a living room, dining room or entryway with this striking pair of antique French Delft vases. Crafted in France circa 1870, each tall vessel features an octagonal silhouette with a flared rim and a sculptural, hand-formed body. Painted in rich cobalt blue over a white glazed ground, the vases depict charming pastoral scenes with rustic figures, trees and landscape accents, all framed by scrolling Rocaille motifs and fine latticework patterns. Floral sprays and insects embellish the reverse, giving each piece a full 360-degree decorative presence. The underside of each vase is marked with a hand-painted blue “W”, a mark associated with several 19th-century French faience workshops producing Delft-style earthenware inspired by earlier Rouen and Nevers traditions. The glazing, weight and crisp cobalt work are characteristic of the period. Both vases are in excellent condition with minor glaze irregularities and light wear typical of age, and present beautifully with deep, vibrant color. Dimensions: 7″ W x 6″ D x 12.5″ H each.
