Pair of 19th Century French Louis-Philippe Carved Painted Commodes Nightstands
$5,800
About
Pair of 19th Century French Louis-Philippe painted nightstands or small commodes, crafted in France circa 1890 and built of pine, reflecting the restrained elegance of Louis-Philippe domestic furniture. Each antique cabinet features a clean, rectilinear case raised on square tapered legs and fitted with two drawers. The drawer fronts are hand-painted with classical urn motifs and Greek key accents, a neoclassical decorative reference interpreted in a provincial Louis-Philippe manner. The surfaces retain a softly distressed cream ground with blue-grey accents and rubbed edges, revealing a desirable aged patina throughout. The tops are finished in a complementary blue-grey tone with chamfered corners, and the drawers are fitted with original iron ring pulls. Solid pine construction is evident to the interiors and backs, consistent with 19th-century French craftsmanship. These antique French cabinets are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with attractive wear that enhances their character without affecting function. Ideal as bedside tables, end tables, or small accent commodes, they bring understated French elegance to a bedroom or living space. Dimensions (each): 23.5″W x 14″D x 30.5″H
