This elegant pair of antique French armchairs was crafted in walnut, circa 1870, and reflects the graceful curves and refined carving associated with the Louis XV style. Each chair features a generously scaled, high upholstered back with a softly arched crest rail, flanked by finely scrolled arms resting on carved supports. The molded seat rails and cabriole legs are richly carved with foliate motifs and floral reserves, all retaining a warm and naturally aged walnut patina. The chairs retain their original needlepoint upholstery, depicting romantic pastoral scenes framed by scrolling cartouches and surrounded by intricate foliate borders. The needlepoint displays softly muted, time-worn colors and a beautiful antique character, enhanced by classic brass nailhead trim.
