Elegant and architectural, this matching pair of antique French wall sconces combines carved giltwood, mirrored panels, and graceful two-light arms in the refined Louis XVI taste. Crafted in France circa 1860, each sconce is conceived as a tall tapering mirrored panel framed by finely carved giltwood ornament.

The upper section is crowned by a bold carved palmette and urn-form motif, while cascading bellflower garlands descend along both sides and terminate in carved floral rosettes. The central body is inset with three narrow mirrored panels, which reflect candlelight and enhance the sculptural depth of the composition. Below, two curving metal arms extend outward to carved foliate bobeches and candle sleeves, creating a balanced and highly decorative silhouette.

The lower section is finished with carved acanthus ornament and a pendant-style terminal, reinforcing the strong neoclassical symmetry associated with the Louis XVI style. The gilt surface has developed a warm, softly aged patina that adds depth and character without diminishing the crispness of the carving.
