Pair of 19th Century French Polished Iron Jardinières with Basket Weave Decor
$2,250
About
Stage a terrace, garden room, or conservatory with this elegant pair of antique iron jardinières crafted in France circa 1850. Rectangular in form with gently bombe sides, each planter is richly decorated with a deeply embossed basket weave motif throughout, creating the illusion of woven wicker executed entirely in hand-worked iron.
The jardinieres stand on delicate acanthus-form feet and are further embellished at each corner with stylized foliate motifs that reinforce their refined French character. Scalloped rims soften the strong architectural silhouette, while the dark polished iron surface reveals subtle silver highlights and a beautifully aged patinated finish acquired over generations of outdoor use.
The interiors retain authentic weathered oxidation and pierced bottoms for proper drainage, making the pair ideal for planting seasonal flowers, herbs, boxwoods, or topiary. Equally striking indoors, they would make exceptional cachepots or decorative vessels in a sunroom or entryway.
The antique planter boxes are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorn a rich blackened steel patina with warm oxidized undertones throughout.
