Pair of 19th Century Italian Painted Wood Altar Pricket with Heraldic Shields
$1,975
About
Add a touch of ecclesiastical charm to your decor with this striking pair of antique pricket candlesticks. Hand-carved in Italy circa 1860, each wooden candlestick is shaped as a stylized urn with wing-like scroll handles, raised on a tiered plinth base. The front of each is painted with a different heraldic motif, one bearing a gold Fleur-de-Lys on a green and black shield, the other a Maltese cross, symbols of nobility and faith. Retaining traces of their original polychrome and gilt finish with beautifully worn patina, these altar candlesticks feature iron prickets at the top for securing taper candles (not included). The back sides remain unpainted and show expected wear from age and use, consistent with ecclesiastical furnishings. Each piece measures 13 inches wide by 4.25 inches deep and 23.5 inches high. A rare and decorative pair, ideal for console tables, mantels, or flanking a sacred or symbolic interior display. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use.
