Pair of Early 20th C. French Neoclassical Stone Garden Planters
$1,300
About
This refined pair of vintage natural stone planters, likely limestone, were crafted in France circa 1920 and reflects a restrained Neoclassical aesthetic. Each rectangular jardinière is molded with elegant scrollwork and stylized palmette motifs along the long sides, creating a balanced architectural rhythm inspired by classical ornament. The planters rest on integral raised feet, providing visual lift while allowing proper drainage and airflow. Each interior retains a central drainage hole, making the pair well suited for live plantings outdoors. The cast stone surfaces display a richly aged antique patina developed through decades of exposure, with soft gray tones enhanced by mineral deposits, surface pitting, and traces of lichen that contribute to their authentic character. Substantial yet versatile, these vintage planters are ideal for flanking a garden path, anchoring a terrace, or framing an entryway with boxwood, herbs, or seasonal arrangements. Their compact scale also allows for use beneath windows, along a balustrade, or as architectural accents in an interior setting. Both pieces are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with evidence of outdoor use. Dimensions: each measures 23.5″W x 8.75″D x 9″H. Weight: approximately 56 pounds each.
