Pair of Early 20th Century French Art Deco Carved Walnut Pheasant Wall Panels
$1,500
About
This pair of antique carved wooden wall panels was crafted in France circa 1920. Hand-carved in high relief from solid walnut, each rectangular plaque features a stylized pheasant with outstretched wings, surrounded by flowering branches and foliate motifs. The birds are rendered with finely detailed plumage, scalloped feather carving, and elongated tail forms, all set against a softly recessed ground that enhances the sculptural depth. The composition has a strong Art Deco influence, blending naturalistic subject matter with clean, symmetrical lines and simplified geometric movement. The warm walnut surface displays a rich, glowing patina with beautiful tonal variation throughout. The carving remains crisp and expressive, with dimensional flowers and foliage that create shadow and visual interest from every angle. The reverse retains simple iron hanging hardware for easy wall installation. These antique French panels would make a striking decorative statement in a study, hunting lodge, wine room, or traditional interior. They may be displayed vertically as intended, flanking a doorway or cabinet, or incorporated into custom millwork. The pieces are in excellent antique condition commensurate with age and use and adorn a warm and rich walnut patina. Dimensions (each): 9”W x 1.5”D x 21”H
