Pair of 19th Century French Aubusson Handwoven Floral Portiere Panels
$3,850
About
Decorate a wall, doorway, or grand hallway with this elegant pair of antique portière tapestries. Handwoven in France circa 1860, each tall panel is designed in the traditional narrow format, originally used to flank doors in château interiors. The compositions feature classical floral arrangements set in decorative jardinières with stylized eagle supports, surrounded by scrolling foliate motifs and delicate architectural framing.
Rendered in a soft pastel palette of beige, blush, pale green, and muted blue, the tapestries offer a refined and airy presence, with beautifully balanced symmetry between the pair. The intricate weaving captures fine detail throughout the bouquets, ribbons, and ornamental borders, lending depth and movement to the design.
The antique wall hangings are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and have been reinforced with new canvas backing for added stability and ease of installation. Versatile in scale and function, they are ideal for flanking a doorway or window, or used as decorative panels in a hallway, landing, or staircase.
