18th Century Italian Baroque Carved Walnut and Wrought Iron Trestle Console
$6,100
About
This impressive antique trestle console table was crafted in southwest Italy, circa 1760. Built of solid walnut, the long refectory-form table rests on bold, hand-carved lyre or ox-yoke supports, joined by a forged iron stretcher that adds both structural integrity and sculptural contrast.
The top is constructed from two wide walnut planks, showcasing a beautifully aged surface with rich tonal variation, natural wear, and centuries of use that speak to its authentic provincial origins. The edges are softly rounded from time, enhancing the table’s warm and tactile presence.
Rooted in the Baroque tradition yet distinctly rustic in execution, the table offers a striking balance between architectural form and country craftsmanship. The silhouette is strong and rhythmic, making it an ideal anchor piece behind a sofa, in an entry hall, or as a narrow dining or writing table.
The antique walnut surface presents a deep, warm patina with desirable distress and character throughout. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use.
