Pair of 18th C. French Carved Oak Hunting Plaques with Wrought Iron Handles
$3,800
About
Add historical charm and sculptural interest to your interior with this impressive pair of hand-carved French wall plaques, crafted in oak circa 1780. Each plaque takes the form of a heraldic-style hunting trophy, featuring rich Baroque contours and deeply sculpted oak leaves and acorns, classic symbols of strength and longevity. At the center of each is a bold wrought iron handle, one rendered in a stylized architectural form with acorn finials, the other in the shape of a fantastical beast, possibly a griffin or dragon, evoking myth and chivalric tradition. The plaques are symmetrically composed, crowned with ribbon-tied motifs and scrolling volutes, and terminating in acanthus and berry clusters. The high-relief carving and time-worn surface patina offer a powerful sense of age and craftsmanship. Whether displayed in a study, above a fireplace, or flanking an entryway, these antique wall elements make a dramatic decorative statement. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Dimensions: 31” high x 19.5” wide x 5” deep.
