$3,800
About
This elegant antique Henri II desserte console was crafted in France circa 1870 and showcases the rich architectural detailing and practical design characteristic of the period. Constructed in solid walnut, the narrow console features a molded top above a finely carved frieze decorated with bold gadrooned ornamentation and fitted with two drawers retaining their original brass pulls and central lock.
The top lifts to reveal a hidden interior lined with a variegated marble surface, creating a functional serving or preparation area. A raised gallery shelf is supported by shaped side brackets, while the concealed marble compartment offers additional utility and storage. The drawers are crafted with hand-cut dovetail joinery, a testament to the quality of its 19th Century construction.
The console stands on turned front supports paired with fluted rear uprights and is joined by two lower shelves, providing ample space for display or storage. The piece combines the functionality of a serving table, washstand, and display console, making it suitable for a dining room, hallway, library, or kitchen.
The antique console is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and adorns a warm and rich walnut patina.
