18th Century French Painted Iron Pastry Table with Black Marble Top
$6,100
About
Graceful and highly sculptural, this antique French pastry table features an elaborate hand-forged iron base with sweeping scrolls, volutes, and decorative bronze mounts. Crafted in France circa 1780, the openwork frame retains a wonderfully aged painted finish in soft cream and dark brown tones, with extensive natural wear revealing the iron beneath and giving the piece exceptional character.
The base is constructed with large opposing scroll supports joined by horizontal stretchers and embellished with bronze finials, collars, and small circular accents. Slender pointed feet give the substantial frame an unexpectedly light and elegant appearance.
The table is topped with a thick rectangular black marble slab, likely added later, providing a handsome contrast to the distressed painted iron base. The dark stone surface makes the piece especially practical for use as a serving table, pastry table, kitchen work table, console, or distinctive center table.
With its animated curves, authentic aged surface, and restrained bronze detailing, the table has the decorative presence of 18th-century French ironwork while remaining highly versatile for today’s interiors.
The antique table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and retains a rich, time-worn patina throughout.
