19th Century French Louis XV Carved Oak Five-Seat Caned Settee
$4,400
About
Decorate a hallway, living room, sunroom, or large bedroom with this elegant antique five-seat caned settee. Crafted in France circa 1880, the long salon bench is built in richly patinated oak and designed in the Louis XV taste with graceful serpentine lines throughout. The divided back features five arched cane panels framed by carved oak rails, each separated by shaped supports and accented at the crest with carved foliate finials and floral motifs.
The seat is fitted with five inset cane panels above a molded apron carved with scrolling foliage, shell-inspired decoration, and floral details. The settee stands on cabriole legs joined by shaped stretchers, while the dramatic scrolled arms add movement and elegance to the silhouette. The warm walnut finish shows beautiful age, grain, and patina.
The antique settee is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Strong, decorative, and functional, this French caned bench would make a wonderful statement piece in a grand entry, or seating area.
