Pair of 19th Century French Napoleon III Sèvres Porcelain Two-Light Lamps
$1,900
About
Elegant and richly decorated, this pair of antique French Napoleon III lamps was originally made as oil lamps and later converted for modern electrical use. Crafted in France circa 1880, each lamp features a deep cobalt-blue Sèvres porcelain body centered with a finely hand-painted floral reserve of roses and garden flowers, framed by delicate gilt borders and decorative gilt accents.
The porcelain bodies are mounted with ornate gilt-bronze fittings, including pierced foliate collars and molded decorative elements that preserve the character of the original oil-lamp construction. Each lamp has been fitted with a new dark blue painted wood base and professionally rewired.
A double-light socket assembly provides two bulbs per lamp, each operated independently by a pull chain. The rich cobalt porcelain, floral decoration, and gilt metal mounts are characteristic of the opulent Napoleon III taste of the late 19th century.
The lamps are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Shades shown are not included.
