Mid-Century French Provençal Green Glazed Terracotta Footed Bowl
$350
About
Colorful and full of rustic character, this vintage French pottery bowl was crafted in Provence circa 1960. Made of hand-thrown terracotta, the shallow circular vessel is raised on a low foot and covered in a vibrant green glaze with darker speckled and streaked decoration throughout.
The interior is accented with concentric incised rings, while the gently scalloped rim is punctuated with small dark glazed details that give the bowl a lively handmade appearance. Variations in the glaze, visible throwing lines, and the unglazed underside of the foot further emphasize its traditional artisanal construction.
Typical of the utilitarian pottery produced throughout Provence, pieces of this type were intended for everyday household use but are now especially appealing as decorative objects. The generous 11.25-inch diameter makes it ideal as a centerpiece, fruit bowl, serving dish, or accent on a kitchen table, console, or open shelving.
The bowl retains an attractive time-worn surface with scattered glaze losses, small chips, firing imperfections, and wear consistent with age and traditional use, all contributing to its authentic Provençal character.
Excellent condition commensurate with age and use.
