19th Century French Louis XIII Carved Bleached Oak Pierced Foliate Wall Mirror
$2,600
About
Richly carved with intricate Renaissance-inspired decoration, this antique French wall mirror showcases the craftsmanship of the late 19th century. Crafted in France circa 1880, the rectangular mirror features an elaborate bleached oak frame in the Louis XIII style, embellished with deeply carved, pierced acanthus leaves, scrolling foliage, and floral motifs throughout.
The openwork frame is decorated with a continuous arrangement of intertwined foliate scrolls, accented with finely detailed leaves and symmetrical ornamental flourishes at the corners and center of each side. The intricate carving creates an attractive interplay of light and shadow, while the stripped oak finish gives the mirror a soft, light patina that beautifully highlights the natural wood grain and depth of the hand-carved decoration.
The mirror is fitted with a later replacement glass plate, providing a clear reflection while preserving the character of the original antique frame. The wooden backing has also been replaced, and a hanging wire is attached for easy installation. The mirror can be displayed vertically or horizontally, making it a versatile addition to an entryway, dining room, bedroom, or above a console.
The antique mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and retains a beautiful bleached oak finish with a soft, light patina.
