19th Century French Louis XVI Silvered Bronze Serving Tray
$1,300
About
This finely crafted antique serving tray showcases the classical symmetry and decorative refinement of the Louis XVI style. Crafted in France circa 1880, the rectangular tray is made of silvered bronze, and features rounded corners, a molded border, and beautifully detailed ornamental accents.
The raised perimeter is embellished with finely cast ribbon bows and floral garlands at each corner, characteristic of the Louis XVI neoclassical aesthetic. The elongated sides are decorated with parallel fluted moldings, while two elaborate openwork handles feature scrolling acanthus leaves, floral rosettes, and graceful curved forms.
The recessed surface is decorated with an intricate guilloché textured pattern, framed by a smooth, polished border with shaped corners. At the center, a circular medallion reserved for a monogram is surrounded by an engraved laurel wreath tied with ribbons, adding a refined and personalized touch to the composition.
The silvered bronze tray is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a lustrous patinated finish and minor surface wear consistent with its age. Both functional and decorative, this substantial antique tray would make a wonderful addition to a dining room, displayed on a buffet or sideboard, or used for serving drinks and hors d’oeuvres.
