This atmospheric antique oil painting captures a peaceful farmyard at the edge of a rural village. Crafted in France circa 1890, the work is painted on canvas and presented in a carved giltwood frame from the same period. Chickens wander across the foreground while rustic buildings, trees, and distant village architecture emerge through the softly illuminated landscape.

Signed “E. Kermanguy” in the lower right corner, the painting is an authenticated work by Eugène Galien-Laloue (1854–1941), who used Kermanguy as one of several pseudonyms throughout his career. We thank Mr. Noé Willer for confirming the authenticity of this painting, which is recorded in his archives of the artist.

Galien-Laloue was celebrated for his atmospheric views of Paris, marine subjects, and French country landscapes. Here, his skillful handling of perspective, diffused light, and hazy atmosphere brings depth and tranquility to the pastoral composition. The cool, naturalistic palette and lively touches of color reflect the Post-Impressionist character associated with his work.

The canvas has been relined and is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Listed in Benezit.
