Late 20th Century French Louis XV Burl Walnut Horloge Bressane Clock
$3,995
About
Elegant and beautifully proportioned, this French “Horloge Bressane” was crafted near Lyon circa 1981 as a faithful reproduction of an 18th-century regional model. Built of richly figured burl walnut and walnut, the tall case follows the graceful Louis XV tradition with a violin-shaped body, cabriole feet, a scalloped apron, and a deeply molded bonnet top.
The clock is fitted with an ornate brass repoussé dial decorated with wheat sheaves, grape clusters, and a radiant sun mask above the white enamel face with Roman numerals and pierced gilt hands. The long case opens to reveal the brass pendulum and weights, while a smaller glazed door provides access to the movement.
An inscription inside the case reads “Copie du Musée de Brou à Bourg” and is dated 1981, indicating that the clock was modeled after an historic example associated with the Musée de Brou in Bourg-en-Bresse.
The movement has been professionally cleaned and checked and is in excellent working order, keeping good time and striking on the hour and half hour. Pendulum, two weights, and winding key are included.
Excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a warm walnut patina and striking burl figuring throughout.
