Bring dramatic Old World character to a large fireplace with this impressive three-piece set of antique andirons. Crafted in France circa 1860, the ensemble includes a matching pair of substantial wrought-iron firedogs joined by a long decorative crossbar.

Each andiron stands on a sturdy scrolling base designed to rest securely within the hearth. Tall upright stems are embellished with hand-forged twists, curved details, and decorative finials characteristic of the Gothic Revival tradition. The coordinating crossbar features a bold twisted design that visually connects the two supports and gives the assembled set an architectural presence.

Expertly forged by hand, the iron displays subtle variations, hammer marks, and irregularities associated with traditional metalworking. The richly aged black-painted finish has developed areas of wear and patination that enhance the authentic antique appearance.

With its unusually large proportions, this fireplace ensemble would be especially appropriate for a substantial stone or carved wood mantel in a living room, library, den, or country house interior.
