19th Century French Gothic Wrought Iron Five-Light Floor Lamp
$1,400
About
Architectural and sculptural, this antique floor lamp combines Gothic character with the rustic artistry of hand-forged iron. Crafted in southern France circa 1860, the tall candelabrum stands on a graceful tripod base terminating in three outward-scrolling feet.
The slender central stem features a continuous hand-twisted design, rising to support five electrified candle arms arranged across two tiers. Four sinuous arms extend outward around a taller central light, creating a balanced silhouette while providing generous illumination. Small curled iron details embellish the junctions of the arms and complement the scrolling feet below.
Each light retains its original red candle sleeve, adding a warm accent against the richly patinated black iron finish. The fixture is equipped with new electrical cord and convenient inline foot switch for easy operation. Its tall, narrow proportions make it ideal beside a reading chair, writing table, console, or fireplace without occupying excessive floor space.
This handsome Gothic Revival floor lamp is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with surface variations and oxidation that enhance its authentic antique character. Equally attractive illuminated or unlit, it brings dramatic Old World presence to a library, study, office, or living room.
